CLUB AWARDS

The presentation of the Club awards takes place at an annual dinner. They commemorate the lives of Old Salvos tragically lost too early.

Requiescat in pace.

The Steve Olohan Memorial Shield (Clubman of the Year)

This award was first made in 1986, a year after Steve tragically died. He had been playing football for Old Salvos at Roxbourne Park when he fell awkwardly and lost conciousness. He passed away a week later.

Steve epitomised what Old Salvos are all about. A tremendous sense of fun coupled with a desire to win and skilful, his passing aged only 27 came as a massive shock to his many friends in Old Salvos.

This is now the most prestigious award which can be given to an Old Salvo in a season, recognising the efforts of an individual, voted by the Club members at or around the Annual Club Dinner, who has made an exceptional contribution to the running of the Club during that season. Fittingly, the first award was to Tony McCormack, long standing Club Chairman and one of Steve's teachers at the Salvatorian College.

Steve's father, Gerry, has regularly attended the Annual Club Dinner to present the shield. His eloquent, emotional words of remembrance, thanks for Steve's life and association with Old Salvos never fail to move a receptive audience.
