The presentation of the Club awards takes place at an annual dinner. They commemorate the lives of Old Salvos tragically lost too early.
Requiescat in pace.
The Peter Snell Memorial Shield (Clubman of the Year)
This award was first made in 2023, a year after Peter died and was presented by his wife, Fran, and daughter, Jacqui to the first winner, James Smith.
Peter loved Old Salvos and supported the Cub as a player, manager, coach, Secretary, Social secretary and spectator. One of those people it was impossible to dislike. Always positive, smiling and great company, whether telling a story or getting the party started with a song or two. "Twist and Shout" and "I saw her standing there" were amongst his repertoire, but most renowned for his rendition of "The Music Man" - once heard, never forgotten.
His influence and stature are missing ingredients of the Old Salvos recipe and he will now be remembered every season with the Clubman shield after retirement of the Steve Olohan Memorial Shield - in the words of Gerry Olohan, Steve's father, no-one deserved such an accolade any more than Peter after all he had done for the Club over so many years.
